Graf Zeppelin Collection

May 9, 1936, mailing via the First Transatlantic Flight by the ZR-129 Hindenberg. In 1936, the Hindenberg made 17 successful round trips across the Atlantic (private collection).
US Postage Issue Oct 2, 1933 commemorating the CENTURY of PROGRESS Exposition at the CHICAGO World's Fair. Featured the LZ-127 Graf Zeppelin on its transatlantic flight from the hangar at Freidrichshafen, Germany, to the special century of progress building at the Chicago Fair. Dr. Eckener was in charge of the trip and circled over America for two hours and then landed at the Curtiss Wright airport in Glenview, IL staying only 25 minutes to avoid bad weather. These rare 50 cent stamps were intended only for use on the Zeppelin mailings. There are less than 10 percent of the printed stamps remaining as the US Mint destroyed all unsold printings.
Graf Zeppelin over the Sphinx and Pyramids, 1931, from AUF LUFTPATROUILLE UND WELTFAHRT, Captain Ernst Lehmann's autobiography (private collection)
